About Us

Karate Zone is a children’s only self-defence academy aimed at building your child’s confidence, coordination, discipline and concentration.

What makes us stand out from the crowd is that we only teach children and not mix them with adults, we feel children should learn and develop with their own age groups.

We take children on as beginners and allocate the most suitable group for them which could the age 4-7 group, age 8-11 group or the mixed age siblings’ group. As the children progress and get older they are put in the age 12 + groups. Our academy teaches freestyle karate, which is a mixed martial art curriculum including traditional karate, kick boxing, taekwondo, boxing, JKD, wrestling and much more. Lessons consist of traditional style line work, pad work, core work, fitness training and contact work starting at touch sparring and progressing to boxing, sparring and wrestling. We provide full protective gear for children, including headguards and gloves. We are a self-defence academy, not a competition fighting academy.
Each of our classes have a minimum of 3 fully qualified Black Belt, first aid trained, fully insured and DBS checked instructors. We pride ourselves on never giving up on any children regardless of background, ability or disability, and like to give everyone a fair opportunity. Being inclusive is one of our core values and we believe everyone has the potential to become a Black Belt.

We actively promote social engagement amongst all students to help combat social anxiety and we have a strong ethos in self-belief for each student. All of this, we believe, helps build strong foundations for your child’s future. Success for us at Karate Zone is taking beginners and turning them into Black Belts who can protect themselves and others around them, success is taking beginners and making them fit, confident, disciplined and respectful of themselves and others around them.

Should the children go all the way to Black Belt they are offered paid instructor jobs should they wish to take them, we have never allowed instructors to work at Karate Zone unless they have come through our system of beginners to Black Belts.
